Dean Mitchell, Executive Director of HudsonAlpha Wiregrass, has been named overall campaign chair for the Wiregrass United Way. Walter Hill, CEO, recently made the announcement at the organization’s annual meeting. Mitchell was most recently the Executive Director of the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, serving in that role for almost eight years.
Mitchell will collaborate with a team of volunteers throughout the six-county region who will lead the organization’s yearly fundraising efforts. Several hundred businesses across the Wiregrass participate in this effort each year by conducting employee fundraising campaigns. These dollars benefit the Wiregrass United Way’s thirty-seven health and human service partnering organizations.
Over the next several months, the Wiregrass United Way will be recruiting volunteers to serve as Loaned Executives during the campaign to assist with fundraising efforts. Loaned Executives are volunteers that help coordinate and organize United Way employee campaigns at local area businesses. These volunteers attend a one-day training and then, are assigned as the main United Way contact for several businesses, where they will help plan and conduct an employee fundraising campaign.
The Pacesetter Campaign Kickoff is scheduled for Tuesday, August 1 at 8:30 a.m. at Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center. Following a brief program to introduce the volunteer leadership team, view the new campaign video, and announce the campaign goal, everyone will be invited to stay to conduct a one-hour service project.
Working together at more than twenty workstations, volunteers will assist in packing meals to feed 50,000 people. The Wiregrass Area Food Bank will distribute these meals to individuals and families in our area. Many of them will go to senior citizens who participate in the brown bag program. Alabama Power Company sponsors this project again this year for the Wiregrass United Way.
